About Me

I am Jerry George, a retired Special Education Teacher living in Decatur, Georgia. I am a licensed, ordained, Baptist Minister, and an appointed Mission Chaplain, in the Civil Air Patrol, (CAP), an auxiliary of the United States Air Force. My greatest enjoyment and my calling comes from my role as a Chaplain. As a counselor, chaplains contribute to the spiritual growth and wellness of individuals and their families.

The chaplain’s office is field locations, hospitals, confinement facilities, flight lines, or anywhere a word of encouragement and solace needs to be heard. Earlier, I wanted to be a loner who only occasionally dealt with people. That is what I wrote on my entrance interview when I joined the United States Air Force in 1965; right out of high school.

Fortunately I did not get a chance to do what I thought I wanted to do. Every position including the one I trained for in the Air Force, has been the opposite. I am still an introvert by default. In my public life I am an extrovert. You can not be a Christian by yourself. Christians are not selfish. They want to share Christ.

My Passion lies in the synoptic gospel of Luke. Unlike Matthew, Mark, and John, Luke was a physician and possibly a Gentile (New Testament Bible). He was not one of the original 12 Apostles but may have been one of the 70 disciples appointed by Jesus.  Luke tells how Jesus reached out to the last, the least, and the lost), the despised, and the forgotten of societies, including (Mary Magdalene) women, who were given a place of importance among Jesus’ followers — “something not typical of the day.”

This blog is about inspiring you to forget about the “woulda coulda shoulda” overcoming regrets, mistakes and missed opportunities and work on the now.  Whether it is a closer walk with your Creator, or some other reason that brings you joy. Dr. Arthur Freeman and his colleague, Rose DeWolf wrote a book with this title in 1992.

I was feeling sorry for myself one day, not being able to see what I had accomplished, and decided to visit the library. I believe the Holy spirit directed me to this shelf and book. I pray that you will subscribe to my blog and become a regular. Http://chaplainjerry.com.

My Belief is to remain faithful to my denominational beliefs and practices, to preach the gospel to the poor; “He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and set at liberty them that are oppressed.”

My Mission is to facilitate ministry to those of other faiths, and to provide care for all people, including those who claim no religious faith. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost” (Luke 19:10).
